SANTA MONICA – On September 23, 2021, Dovel & Luner Partner Christin Cho was appointed by the court to serve as App Maker Discovery and Claims Counsel on the Plaintiffs’ Executive Committee for the Simulated Casino-Style Games MDL.

In the on-going cases, Plaintiffs allege that Apple, Facebook, and Google each illegally host, promote, and profit from more than fifty social casino games. Defendants work in partnership with these “Illegal Slot” apps to profit off of players who are manipulated into purchasing “virtual ‘chips’” from Defendants to continue gambling. As the Complaint alleges, Defendants have violated numerous state laws, such as Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act and California’s Unfair Competition Law.

Many of the plaintiffs have spent upwards of tens of thousands of dollars on these Illegal Slots. The MDL seeks to enjoin defendants from continuing to engage in these illegal practices and to require that defendants compensate harmed consumers.
“I look forward to working with co-counsel to get justice for the thousands of consumers that have been harmed by these illegal gambling games,” said Christin Cho of Dovel & Luner.
