Artificial Intelligence Harm
Did you or a loved one experience any physical or mental harm as a result of using an AI chatbot, such as ChatGPT, Google Gemini, or Perplexity?
If so, you may be entitled to compensation from the party responsible:
What are AI chatbots?
Chatbots are computer programs that simulate human-like conversation with users. Chatbots that are commonly used by consumers (e.g., ChatGPT, Google Gemini, or Perplexity) are often equipped with artificial intelligence, including conversational AI techniques such as natural language processing (NLP) to understand user questions and automate responses.
In recent years, people have increasingly adopted ways to use AI chatbots in their everyday lives. According to OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT: “Three-quarters of conversations [with the chatbot] focus on practical guidance, seeking information, and writing…”
A number of people—including children—now use chatbots as regular conversation partners – not only just to answer questions, but also to offer camaraderie and emotional support. A 2025 Harvard Business Review report identified therapy and companionship as the top reasons people are using generative AI.
In some cases, using AI has resulted in harm or tragedy.
Lawsuits have been filed against companies that negligently operate AI chatbots for causing physical and mental harm, for example, by providing harmful medical advice and even the encouraging of suicides.
Beyond causing physical harms, AI chatbots pose serious risks to mental health, by, for example, reinforcing body image issues or eating disorders, encouraging emotional isolation, reinforcing depression or other preexisting mental health struggles, and increasing addiction to technology, including the AI chatbot itself.
What are examples of AI Chatbots?
Since its explosion in 2023, ChatGPT has become a household name, with over 800 million weekly users as of November 2025. OpenAI’s ChatGPT has introduced generative AI into our everyday lives, paving the way for more chatbots to enter the market. Other AI chatbots that have also gained popularity include Google Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, Perplexity, Meta AI, Grok, Character.AI, and more.
